Megan and Robert’s Meadowlark Botanical Gardens wedding was the kind of day that felt quiet and grounded in all the best ways – so peaceful and heartfelt. I first photographed Megan and Rob during their engagement photos at Brookside Gardens last fall. We bonded over our shared love of garden settings. So choosing a Meadowlark Botanical Gardens wedding was the perfect fit! Lush gardens, wide paths, and a timeless natural setting that never feels overdone.
I was also thrilled to work with Diana from Passionate Weddings, one of my favorite planners in the area. I love working with her so much that I interviewed her for my blog highlighting the work of wedding planners and coordinators! She made sure the entire day flowed beautifully and felt truly intentional. Megan and Rob got ready at a nearby hotel, each in separate suites. It allowed me to float between their spaces and capture the full story. Their calm, kind personalities set such a peaceful tone. And I’ll never forget seeing Megan’s bouquet for the first time… Those light purple roses from Twinbrook Floral Design were like something out of a dream.
Once everyone arrived for the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens wedding, we kicked things off with Megan and Rob’s private first look. We chose a quiet pathway beside a garden of bright pink flowers, with the iconic Lake Caroline gazebo peeking out in the background. It was a perfect moment. The two of them took their time – talking, smiling, and just being present together before the rest of the day unfolded.
Their ceremony took place on the patio of The Atrium at Meadowlark, a stunning space that blends the garden setting seamlessly with the structure of a venue. They kept the guest list small for the ceremony itself, creating an intimate atmosphere that matched their personalities. Afterward, more friends and family arrived for their reception inside the Atrium.
Matching florals and pops of color in the periwinkle and purple linens brought the reception space to life. I love how greenery fills The Atrium. It’s like being outside, but with all the comforts of an indoor space. As a Northern Virginia wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to venues like this that allow the natural beauty of the landscape to shine.
One of my favorite moments of their Meadowlark Botanical Gardens wedding was sneaking away after dinner for golden hour portraits. We wandered through the garden paths down to the gazebo at the water’s edge. And the light was absolutely magical – soft, warm, and full of romance. It was such a sweet time for Megan and Rob to pause and soak in the day before heading back to the celebration.
And celebrate they did! Their reception kicked off with glow sticks (a trend I’ll always love). And the dance floor was packed thanks to one of my favorite DJs, DJ Luccio. His energy is unmatched, and he kept the party fun for guests and fellow vendors alike.
This Meadowlark Botanical Gardens wedding was everything I love about photographing love stories: peaceful, joyful, meaningful, and filled with beauty. From their Atrium at Meadowlark wedding ceremony to their golden hour portraits and joyful party, Megan and Rob’s celebration reminded me why I feel so lucky to be a Northern Virginia wedding photographer.
