Eve and Greg’s St. Francis Hall wedding in Washington, DC landed right in the middle of a winter storm. The kind where the city feels hushed and the snow comes down in soft bursts. And somehow, instead of slowing the day down, the snow made everything feel even more meaningful.
I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding as part of Jennifer Fern Photography’s team. From the first snowflakes outside St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church to the joyful celebration inside St. Francis Hall, the entire day was a perfect blend of sacred tradition and warm, family-centered joy.
The day began with a flurry of snow outside St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington, DC. Eve arrived wrapped in winter calm – her and her father approaching the facade of the church beneath an umbrella as snow collected around them. At the front doors, Greg and the priest greeted them. There was this beautiful pause: a few words exchanged, a moment of reverence, and then a procession into the warmth of the church.
Inside, the whole atmosphere shifted in the most comforting way – cozy, candlelit, and steady. The ceremony unfolded with timeless symbolism and sacred beauty. Candles were lit. The couple drank from the common cup. They were crowned, honoring their new life together with a kind of holy dignity that always takes my breath away. And at the end, they were sent off with a kiss that felt like the perfect exhale after a sacred “yes.”
Greek Orthodox wedding ceremonies are special, and among my favorite weddings to photograph. Looking for more Greek Orthodox weddings near Washington, DC? Check out Hannah and Peter’s wedding at Sts. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church.
After the ceremony, everyone made their way to St. Francis Hall for the celebration. Walking in felt like stepping into a warm glow after the tundra outside. St. Francis Hall wedding receptions have such a romantic charm, and this one was especially romantic. String lights wrapped in greenery overhead, tables dressed with stunning ivory floral centerpieces, and an overall atmosphere that felt elegant without ever feeling stiff.
It was the kind of space that invites connection. Where guests naturally linger, lean in, and settle into the joy of the evening as they watch the sun set on the blanket of white out the windows.
Eve and Greg entered their reception to cheers, surrounded by the energy of their loved ones. They were accompanied by a Greek band that immediately set the tone. From the first beats of music, the room felt alive.
And then came one of my favorite parts of the night: the traditional money dance. There’s something so celebratory and communal about it! Guests gathering close, laughing and cheering for the newlyweds. It’s a moment that feels both festive and deeply meaningful.
As the evening unfolded, the warmth only grew. Family and friends shared toasts at their tables – some tender, some hilarious, many tearful in the best way. You could see how loved Eve and Greg are by the way people spoke about them. With pride and affection that shows up when someone you love is stepping into something sacred and beautiful.
And once the dance floor opened up, it stayed full.
There were spinning napkins in the air, big joyful circles of people dancing together. It was that kind of reception energy you can’t manufacture. Not about perfection, but about presence. About celebration. About a room full of people who showed up in a snowstorm because this wedding mattered.
I photographed this wedding as part of Jennifer Fern Photography’s team. I’m so grateful to have participated in such a beautiful day. So remember – you’re seeing my perspective as the second photographer for the day. These are angles that wouldn’t be captured, laughs that would have been lost to memory, details that may have gone unnoticed, had Jennifer been the sole photographer for the day.
