As a Catholic wedding photographer, I always get a little extra excited for weddings during the Christmas season. Caitlin and Francis’ St Dominic DC wedding was no exception! I had the pleasure of serving as the second photographer for my good friend Kara Loryn Photography, who is also a talented Catholic wedding photographer. From start to finish, this day contained meaningful moments, joyful celebration, and the magical beauty of a DC Christmas wedding.
I started my day at the Tysons Corner Marriott, where Francis and his groomsmen were getting ready. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with lots of laughter and some fun conversation about how their wedding officiant, Fr. Searby, had been the chaplain at George Mason University – where both Francis and my husband went to school (just a couple of years apart!). After photographing some of Francis’ details, including his shoes, boutonniere, and a special saint medal, he then suited up with his groomsmen and we made our way to the church.

The ceremony took place at the stunning Catholic church St. Dominic DC. As soon as we arrived, it struck me how beautifully the church was decorated for Christmas. Evergreen wreaths, soft candlelight, and seasonal touches created a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for such a joyful occasion.
When Caitlin entered the church, wearing a gorgeous lace gown, you could see the emotion on Francis’ face. In fact, he teared up watching his bride walk down the aisle. Their Catholic wedding ceremony was reverent yet joyful, just like the season itself. The love and support from family and friends filled the church. It was clear that everyone present was genuinely thrilled to witness this sacred moment.
After the ceremony, we stepped outside to capture wedding party portraits around the church. The brickwork and historic charm of St. Dominic’s provided the perfect backdrop. Despite the winter chill, the entire wedding party was in great spirits – especially as we moved into the celebration portion of the day!
We returned to the Tysons Corner Marriott for a classic ballroom reception that seamlessly blended elegance and Christmas cheer. The space featured evergreen wreaths and glowing candles, creating a cozy and festive ambiance. Caitlin and Francis’ wedding party was incredibly supportive and kept the energy high, cheering the couple on as they shared their first dance and continued to celebrate throughout the night.
As a Catholic wedding photographer, it’s always so rewarding to witness and document weddings where the couple’s faith, family, and personal touches all come together so beautifully. Caitlin and Francis’ St Dominic DC wedding was a perfect reflection of the season – joyful, reverent, and full of love. It was such a pleasure to be part of their special day, and I’m so grateful to Kara for bringing me along to capture these memories with her!
