Lovancy and Chuckie met on Catholic Match. I always love meeting couples who met on Catholic Match because it’s how my husband and I met as well! These two are clearly a match made in heaven and I have loved getting to know them! I’m so excited to share a sneak peek of their summer engagement session at Historic St. Mary’s in Fairfax!

They’re both extraordinarily talented musicians who have been playing their instruments since a very young age. Chuckie is a very well-accomplished pianist and opera singer, while Lovancy is a talented violinist. They play together regularly including at weddings – they were actually the musicians at Kayla and Isaac’s wedding earlier this year!

We started our session at the historic St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church in Fairfax because it’s the church closest to Chuckie’s family home and is a location where they’ve visited and performed many times. The small church is surrounded by gravestones which presented a bit of a challenge – graves aren’t exactly the bright and romantic background I typically look for. But the church itself made for the perfect background and we didn’t have to go far in order to get tons of beautiful images thanks to a perfect golden hour evening! There were also beautiful pink hydrangea bushes in bloom this time of year.

We followed up our outdoor portraits with some photos at Chuckie’s family home where he grew up to capture the two of them performing together in the living room. I was so privileged to get a free private concert while photographing them, and they even insisted that I sit and put the camera down while they perform one song so I could fully enjoy the experience. It was an incredible experience and these two are so incredibly talented!

I’ll be the first to admit that I was a little nervous going into this session because I’ve never worked with a client who was blind before, and I often lean on visual cues for my clients when posing them. I wanted to make sure Lovancy and Chuckie were comfortable in front of the camera while still getting the romantic and fun photos that they hired me for. But once we got started, Lovancy and Chuckie made photographing this session a breeze! They were dancing together, laughing, and sharing their own special moments as if I wasn’t even there, and we were all laughing and enjoying ourselves the entire time. Their sweet and silly demeanor made for a perfect mix of candid and romantic photography that left me feeling so excited for their wedding day in the fall!
