As a Catholic wedding photographer, I was elated to receive an email from Dominique from Catholic wedding planning company White Lily Weddings a few months ago, looking for a photographer for her clients getting married in December. Of course, I always love having the chance to work with wedding planners in general and will always sing the praises of the value of a wedding planner or coordinator on a wedding day, but it was extra special to entertain the idea of working with a fellow The Catholic Bridal Collective vendor!
Molly and Andrew decided to trust me with their wedding photography and after their incredible engagement session at Sky Meadows State Park, I was so excited for their big day to arrive. I had a big day ahead of me with 11 hours of photography coverage on the schedule, and it was so worth the hard work! My day started with some pretty flat lay details while Molly was getting ready in her hotel room, and I had a chance to use my new styling mat overlay from Olive and Oak Mats, as well as my forever-favorite rosary/ring dish from House of Joppa. Beside Molly’s dress was a bouquet of white roses that Andrew had delivered for her that morning which was so romantic and sweet, and she had plenty of other details for me to play around with while she was getting ready.
Once Molly was dressed and ready, her father came in for a Father-Daughter first look that was so sweet! Meanwhile, my second photographer Kelly was hanging out with the guys and had a chance to capture some very sweet moments between Drew and his mom. Family was clearly a high priority for Molly and Drew, and the love and support they received from their family and friends was palpable throughout the day from start to finish.
I loved that the church was decorated for the Advent/Christmas season! There were poinsettias surrounding the altar and a beautiful nativity scene off to the side. After their beautiful wedding ceremony, I stayed behind with Molly and Drew to capture their private foot washing; it was so special to be able to witness this intimate wedding day moment where Molly and Drew chose to do something a little extra to emphasize the true meaning of their marriage vows, not for performance in front of their guests but just for themselves before God.
Once we were finished at the church, we headed over to The Line Hotel in DC for their reception. This hotel is so cool and has been on my bucket list for years! The hotel is built around what used to be a church, and features old church pews as seating in the hallways, hymn signage repurposed for directional signage around the hotel, huge stained glass windows, and a chandelier-style decor piece made of original church organ pipes. The Line Hotel is one of the most unique wedding venues in DC for sure.
One of my favorite parts of Molly and Drew’s reception was their cake. I am in love with the vintage buttercream cake trend – it may be trending, but it looks so timeless! The incredible Buttercream Bakeshop in DC nailed it with this cake!
It was truly such an honor to photograph this Catholic wedding at The Line Hotel in DC. A big thank you to Molly and Drew, as well as Dominique with White Lily Weddings, for trusting me to capture this beautiful Christmas wedding in DC!
