Sydney and Nick’s fall engagement session at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia was an absolute dream to photograph! Oatlands is one of my favorite engagement session locations in Loudoun County, and it’s easy to see why. The curated gardens have this magical “secret garden” vibe that’s the perfect mix of natural and elegant. Pair that with the warm glow of early fall, and you’ve got the ultimate setting for capturing love.
This session was a far cry from the last time I was at Oatlands. Last summer I had a blast with Anna and James in the middle of a rainstorm! It ended up being one of my favorite engagement sessions of all time. As cool as the rainy engagement session was, I was eager to return to Oatlands to get a little less wet!
Sydney and Nick couldn’t have chosen a better time or place for their session. The early autumn colors complemented their outfits perfectly—especially Sydney’s timeless burnt orange dress paired with adorable Mary Janes. She looked incredible! Nick was the perfect complement to her, both in his style and in the way he looked at her. They have such a sweet, tender connection, and it really shone through in every single photo.
We spent the afternoon wandering through the gardens, taking full advantage of Oatlands’ charm. Every corner of this venue offers something special, from the manicured pathways to the lush greenery and historic architecture. It feels like stepping into another world, and Sydney and Nick brought it to life with their love and laughter. They were so natural together, whether they were walking hand in hand or sharing quiet moments.
One of my favorite things about Oatlands is how versatile it is. The gardens provide a variety of backdrops that can go from romantic to refined in just a few steps. It allowed us to create a gallery of images that truly reflects the beauty of this exciting time in their lives.
Looking back on this session, I can’t help but feel excited for their wedding next year at the chapel at Marymount University (my alma mater!). If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day is going to be just as full of love, joy, and meaningful moments. I’m so honored to be part of their journey and can’t wait to capture their next big milestone as they say “I do.”
Sydney and Nick, thank you for trusting me to capture this beautiful season of your lives. Your fall engagement session at Oatlands was such a pleasure. I’m so excited for all the amazing moments to come as you two start your life together! Here’s to the countdown to your big day!
