My first wedding of 2023 was Sarah and Ed’s stunning Catholic wedding and it was a stunning start to the year! The ceremony took place at the breathtaking Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Aldie, Virginia. This newly-built church, which opened its doors in 2021, has stunning traditional-yet-updated architecture that made the perfect backdrop for Sarah and Ed’s nuptials. Being able to photograph one of the first weddings in this space was so special. I especially love the view from the choir loft!
Standing proudly by Ed’s side were his two sons, while Sarah’s daughter took on the role of Maid of Honor. The love and support from their children made the day even more special. One of the most special moments of the ceremony was when the priest blessed a crucifix for Sarah and Ed. As a Catholic wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot, but this unique addition to their ceremony was truly touching and something I hadn’t witnessed before. It brought an extra layer of personalization to their wedding.
Following the ceremony, Sarah and Ed took some incredible portraits inside and outside the church. We had to make use of the stunning architecture both inside and out, so in addition to classic photos by the altar we also got some with the choir loft + rose window in the background, and photos outside in front of the church.
After wrapping up the portraits, we headed to their reception at Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm in Leesburg, Virginia. The charm of this venue cannot be overstated – its barn-style interior provided the coziest atmosphere for Sarah and Ed’s celebration on a breezy March day.
Before making their grand entrance, the newlyweds took some time to snap a few more photos outside of Clyde’s. They were troopers despite the windy conditions, and we found some cute spots on the property despite the fact that the typical garden setting they were expecting to use was under construction! I’m hopeful I can return to Clyde’s again in the future and make use of that space next time!
